It was scorching hot day on the 29th of November and the whole school was getting prepared for one of the most important days for the school. And that day was the 50th anniversary, which meant a lot o practice. For the last few weeks our whole school have been practicing really hard to be really quite in assembly to show the 3 R’s and to be kind to those who are speaking. The whole school also practiced our school Haka so that we had a Haka after the sculpture was unveiled.
At 10.30am all of the school headed of to the courts, so that we could enter the hall house by house so that there was no collision. When the whole school had entered the hall we had to wait a while because all of the Manuhiri (Visitors) were having a little catch up so we were sitting there for a long time. When the Manuhiri (Visitors) were ready to get welcomed all of purple house and some other people from other houses, welcomed them on with a Powhiri. It was really quite amazing.
When assembly started to take off some past students and staff had a little talk about there days at our school when they were young. They also talked about what they did back then. We were sitting on the ground for a very long time about 2 and a half hours. And it was really boring in there but we had to still show the 3r’s. One of the men that was talking to us was one of the past staff and he had a really long speech but every now and then he threw in these really funny jokes that had to do with his speech it was really hilarious.
After assembly house by house like the way we came in we exited the hall as quietly as possible and we went out into the front yard to see the sculpture get unveiled. Firstly this man said a karakia and talked about the land and stuff like that. Then these two people on wheel chairs unveiled the sculpture. This man blessed the sculpture and told us about the statue and what it was called. The statue was called Manaia and it was made out of marble and it looked absolutely amazing. After the sculpture was unveiled the whole school did the Haka and it was the best time that we had ever done it and it was really quite something.
When that was all done it was time for lunch and we all rushed over to where our team was and had our sausage sizzles. The sausages were free so we could have had as much as we wanted 2 maximum. I had two sausages but I couldn’t even eat them and I hate sausages so I don’t know why I ate them. There were some more sausages left over but I didn’t have any. After lunch we got to just hang around and do what ever we wanted. And that was pretty much all day.
